How does FIFA plan on fighting this surge of racism and violence? Anti-racism days and pun-filled say-no-to-racism signs. "Kick racism out of football." Great. At least, there are new regulations (as of two weeks ago) that fine fans for displaying racist banners.

I don't hate anyone we do it to tease and demoralise cos hes in the opposite team ,but then again I saw white folk at soccer matchs wearing "nigger power" shirts oh well you could be right, but When I was in tunisia in a soccer match and a white player got the ball all the black players started calling him a Nazi and it was the black players who were saluting, and calling him foxx humok ..something like that, it sounded offensive, but what the heck, its a game we loved it and the Tunisians had nothing against us white folk after the game, so I don't know about this racism thing... maybe Germany i dono, if its racism its not with hate I guess.

My opinion is Racism is peaking, because of the mass immagration in the European Countries, I mean its a phenomena, you have to admit most people are seeing it as an invasion (yes I know it provokes laughter). Well, I can guess why it started (in relation to black people). Ever since the peoples of the world started interacting, Africa has always lagged behind in all areas that one can think of (economy, culture, etc). It's not only about poverty. The Indians were dirt poor but they had produced a philosophy and religions that impressed everybody and some amazing civilizations in their past. We're in 2006 and Africa still hasn't produced one thing that impresses anyone. Stop mumbling about racism and create one African country that's a success story and prove them wrong! Create an african japan, write an african Vedas or unearth an african Angkor Vat - just prove that you matter and stop complaining.
Pedro: read some history books (re: Africa having no cultural or economic history). The Egyptians built the pyramids, had astronomy, maths, and a complex civilization in the 25th century BC while most Europeans were living in mud and stick huts in small tribal groups.

Such negative social commentary on racism as this blog as set forward is now seen as 'out of fashion' and 'conspiracy theory'... heh, rather like Chomsky. The fact is that racism is still alive and well. I've seen many people, especially teenagers, who carry around the blanket statement "I'm not racist" but on close and frank inspection of their mannerisms, are. This isn't a black vs white dichotomy either. I'm Korean, and while I've been subject to racism living in New Zealand in the past, I've also seen some outrageously racist Koreans, especially against Chinese and some other Asians that they consider to be 'inferior Asians' to Korea and Japan.
While jayg's comment betrays a total misunderstanding of world history at large, arguing for Africa's achievements for the world gives the wrong impression. No matter how the social dynamics have categorised us into demographics and nationalities, we are all people and people deserve a basic degree of respect, and if you can only judge the merits of a nation or a person by scientific, military or political achievements... well.
Practically, though, racism isn't going to go away just because our mindset is geared, whether naturally or environmentally, towards categorisation by race. I suppose its victims can find solace in the fact that the perpetrators of such idiocy have closed their eyes to their own soul and can only seek the fastest way to raucous laughter.

Well, I'm white and living in a Brussels migrant suburb, and i've been attacked by several people, not because of my money, but because of my (white) skin. So don't come to Brussels, white guys !? Racism is a very bad vice. It does exist and all efforts should be geared towards eliminating it. Imagine, Apatheid did exist in South Africa, blacks were not allowed into certain restaurants, hospitals, drive ways. This was happening in Africa under the watchful eyes of everybody till the early 90's. WHat would happen if an African steps into Europe? But i've met some really nice Europeans, they pretend to be non-racists but waaah, they are disgusted by the mere sight of a black person.
We should be aware of the fact anti-racisme has become a dangerous ideology; a simplistic reduction to one ideology.

I don't know what part of the world you're from but as a black American who has also spent half of my life in Europe such actions are as racist as it gets! I bet you wouldn't be so bold to do this if you were in close proximity to a black people now would you??? Come around my people and see how many laughs you get! The whole "blackie, monkey, bananna" thing has long been a part of typical language that racists have been spewing. This isn't "Ha, ha I called you a black monkey let's all laugh!" It's called a racial slur!!! I live in Southern US, home of the KKK, that has a long history of racial tensions and injustices towards blacks and know for a fact that you don't have to be wearing a white hood and burning crosses to be a racist you just have to be ignorant as hell like yourself!!

Racism is borne out of generations of discrimination, and all you guys are doing is spreading it in different ways... the facto fthe matter is... there shouldn't be any distinction in any way regarding any physical characteristics or beliefs.
You can however distinguish people on the actions they commit. For example, a criminal is a criminal, regardless what colour or belief, but ouy can't assume all black people are criminals... you get the point.

The BBC is the first to be racist.
They dont publish comments on their website that goes again their "middle of the road views".
Whenever an African team plays there are the first to remind us of "their colonial masters" as if football in 2006 is only has something to do with wwhoever invaded our parents land during the so call "colonial" time. They also keep reminding our teams that as World Cup newcomers they should not expect much forgetting that Senegal in 2002 reached the 1/4 finals.
Even worst ... they have hardly commented Crouch illegal goal against T&T ... even when replays clearly show it. Crouch "appeared" to have commited an offense they say when it was a DELIBERATE act of cheating.
When the same offence takes place against England ... death treats are sent to the referee.
Indeed there is RACISM alive, they have just gave it a new face and a new hat so you wont see it clearly.

To that person who said Africa didn't contributed to world's civilisation, well it shows how modern, civilised or western you are. When you are sent to school, do you just sit in class and watch or you trully study,understand and assimilate?
